Essential Acids – Amino Acids Help Produce Protein For The Body

Essential Acids – Amino Acids Help Produce Protein For The Body

Many people talk about how important amino acids are for the health and growth of muscle in the body, but what exactly is an amino acid? Amino acids play central roles both as building blocks of proteins and as intermediates in metabolism. When we consume protein it is synthesised or broken down into various amino acids and then put back together again to form new proteins that make up most solid parts of the body, skin, hair, muscles and eyes.

Amino Acids Are Vital For Strong, Healthy Bodies

There are approximately 20 different amino acids found in the human body. Humans synthesize about 10 of the 20 commonly encountered amino acids; these are termed nonessential amino acids. The essential amino acids must be supplied in food. It is important to note that a healthy diet will supply the necessary amino acids to build the muscle a body needs.

Important Essential Amino Acids

  •  Lysine (plays an important structural and chemical role in proteins)
  • Phenylalanine (important in the formation and realease of certain hormones)
  • Histidine (is important for the growth and repair of tissue)
  • Valine (has a stimulant effect which affects healthy growth depends on)
  • Leucine (The most abundant amino acid, essential for nutrition)
  • Threonine (an essential component of human nutrition)
  • Tryptophan
  • Isoleucine
  • Methionine

Foods Rich in Amino Acids

The best sources of protein are beef, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy products, nuts, seeds, and legumes like black beans and lentils. Digestion breaks down the protein in these foods into amino acids. The amino acids then can be reused to make the proteins your body needs to maintain muscles, bones, blood, and organs. There are many vegetarian foods that are also rich in amino acids. These include dried beans, peas, soy, nuts and seeds. Although plants generally lack one or more of the essential amino acids, when combining them with grains, all amino acids can be acquired.
